Morning Came the 57th Day

Spirit of the Outback, our next train journey. This time 1st Class Sleeper, as it's 1,325kms, takes 26 hrs and 15 mins. We left Longreach at 10am and will arrive in Brisbane tomorrow lunch time.
Still in the "outback" for a while.

At Barcaldine the train stopped and we could leave the station to see the Tree of Knowledge. Great history display re Unions, Labour Party and workers' equity. The tree was vandalised but this prompted an even stronger attempt to commemorate the struggles. The structure around the dead tree is exquisitely done; the hanging wooden  pieces chime in the wind, just like the wind in the trees.

The main street...

Back to the train...the antithesis of the Mt Isa service! Very comfortable, every convenience,
Our cabin was a double which meant there was just no wall between two singles. The corridors are interesting ..no passing lane,
superb meals served in a dining car.

This wasn't us but the sunset was
on their side! We travelled in a straight line for a long time until we crossed the Drummond Range. Many S bends, slow and winding.

By the time we got to Emerald it was dark- the only photo with emerald.

This leg was all about the train experience. Talking to others they said the Brisbane-Cairns was equally good.
The Club Car...place to chat

Ready to be served..

And so to bed. And soooo comfortable. And so ended the 57th day, with many more photos recording our dream.
