Morning Came the 51st Day
Up at sunrise as we wanted to climb Castle Hill before it got too hot. There are lots of tracks. We researched and had decided to use the steps to the painted water tank for the first ascent. WRhen we got there- fenced off for refurbishment! It all looked pretty new but maybe further up there was still work happening.
Art work on the tank was striking in the sun so walked around to another start point of the Goat Track. In essence it comprised a million steps- two kinds, formed timber and stone steps. Very steep. They must have had a few heart attacks as there is an emergency app to download and markers every 100m giving exact location. Nothing as deflating as turning a corner and there's another "stairway to heaven"!
We made it! But I'm jealous of those who can bounce up/down stairs.
Looking to the west, then towards The Strand.
I knew there was no way I could descend all those steps so had decided already to walk down the road.
Had some fun on the way. We knew there were RAAF jets in Cairns who would be flying home south today. Half way down, overlooking the base, in they came for morning tea! All six circled and landed in succession. A great diversion.
The first half down was in shade so quite pleasant but by the time we were at the front the sun was already scorching.
My only pic of Luke today. This is a steep decline...pic seems the reverse.
