Morning Came the 50th Day
Later. Time for a pause. Sleepin, laundry, leisurely breakfast. We are staying in a lovely apt almost overlooking the footy stadium.
Hit the road at 12..walked till 4.30; lots to see.Popped into the Information Centre- thankfully here they have one. Cairns didn't! Had a million Tour Booking Offices masquerading as Info Centres.
Cairns must have secured new premises! We did the Historical Buildings walk, Anzac Park and the length of the Strand.
Fletcher St is full of older buildings, mostly preserved but used alternatively these days.Sadly, there were quite a few shops for lease. Hospitality seems to be ok and certainly the State of Origin next week will give a boost.
Anzac Park....a perfect park!
T'ville for me wins over Cairns- less touristy commercial, more green spaces, and seems to have a focus on community activity/wellness. So continuing our 10k steps, onto the Strand. This faces Magnetic Island.
Then saw St Patricks College, a boarding school. Continuation of old and new, meticulously maintained. This was "the new"; behind the facade were 3 floors
Zoom to see the facade detail.
Although the shore is sandy, no swimmers. Here they have at least 3 kinds of stingers. At short intervals along the walk were cannisters with vinegar in. This is the only immed treatment for a sting.
