Morning Came the 47th Day

We walked outside to go to the pier and it bucketed down. Not a great start to an island trip, esp as the sea graph was not favourable. So we got a taxi to a least be dry on the boat.

Stupidly, or maybe not, I left the umbrella  in the taxi. Although my worst fears were realised when the sea was like a washing machine,  I  managed Ok. A bit disconcerting when the crew says "They're dropping like flies"! Our intention was to walk and swim.  We had breakfast ( now there was no risk of throwing up),

and sused out the facilities. Then it poured like I haven't seen before.

That's the sea in front of us! Chatted with a gardner who said he had his raincoat on and off 20 times since 5am. I asked him to leave it on to keep the rain away! We had rain jackets and had borrowrd a large umbrella from the resort.  So set out to do the Summit track

Somewhat apprehensively we set off. The track  was wet ( read slippery), the rocks wee damp (read slippery), and the treads on any formed stairs were full of water. But the rain had stopped. I was scared of falling on my new knees, although they performed well up the steep climb.Half way up...
I'm not detailing to rest of the walk, sufficient to say, boldering,  hundreds of made steps with nothing to grab... lucky I had a husband and an umbrella.

Then rough stuff

There's a track in there! Anyway we got to the top- 360 degree view of the ocean! What did I expect? Coming down towards the lighthouse was not as steep although there was some bum sliding. I thought when we joined the Lighthouse track along the bottom of the island, the going would be easier. Nuh, just different. There were two cement tracks, obviously for a vehicle to use. They ran up and down each gully at 20+%. Pretty tough on the thighs.  But we made it back...my first serious feat for my knees.  Had a drink and set off for Nudie Beach.  So far any beach had been a coral beach.

Really fascinating. Nudie looked liq1ke it had sand and was described as a flat walk.....after several of these, I gave up....too tired.

A younger couple who passed us reported later they made it to the beach but didn't swim. We strolled on the secret garden path, retired for another ginger beer, watched a storm and hopped oqn the boat. Long conversation with  a builder who  was working on the island....lots of insight into the local economy, etc. Trip back was hardly a ripple!

So ended the 47th day..very satisfying. Slept like a log.
