Morning Came the 46th Day

Sunday...a day of rest. We really needed a slow day. Had to keep reminding ourselves it was ok to just sit.

So we punted on a historical walking tour. A couple of hours, interesting but not riveting. Being Sunday, the Museum, Art Gallery etc were not open. The focus was mainly on buildings.

This pic of the taxis, featured on a utility box was taken outside the School of Arts

This one is a shot of the same building today

The mid 1930s saw a building boom in Cairns; all the significant buildings of this era feature Ionic columns as this was a trademark of the favoured architect. This is now the  Art Gallery.

Cairns was one of the first towns to have a department store that sold ready made clothes.

You may wonder why I don't feature more streetscapes? Because they have ripped up all the main thoroughfare to repave the entire downtown. Am not sure how they will cope with the Ironman crowds, unless there is a oadworks miracle in the next week.
Indigenous art is featured in tgecsrreetscapes. These pieces, featured in Shield St Park didn't photograph that well but were attractive.
But these were soectacular...River Men.

The 46th day ended with feet up; my legs were aching and it would be action stations again tomorrow.
