Morning came the 35th Day
Today marks half-way in terms of time. Quite a psychological milepost. And to mark the occasion my violet shampoo popped its lid......something always does on any trip. Thankfully I found it early enough to clean and dry stuff before we left. A few hours to fill before the bus so took refuge in the library. It turned out to be three extra hours on top as the bus broke down early into the trip from Perth. We had seen heaps on finding HMAS Sydney but hadn't heard the name of a fellow we met on our Camino in Spain, Cptn Peter Hore. He had told Luke he was commissioned by Rudd to locate the wreck as he had worked out exactly where it was. And what a fascinating story it was. Yes, it was so. Well worth looking up how he did the initial investigation to enable the physical search.
We left Exmouth at 4.15. The country changed to very flat as we cut across back to the highway. Just one stop along the way at Nanutarra.
We were entering the Pilbara and soon the landscape was dotted with mining sites and camps all lit up. It was so flat that we could see Dampier and Karratha from 70 kms out.and arrived in Karratha at 10.30pm
Taxied to our accom. The town of 24,000 is very flat and spread out.
