Morning Came the 28th Day

And we should have been on our way to Kalbarri.  ROADBLOCK.  After the cyclone Kalbarri was fenced off- access only to residents and recovery workers. So we changed our plans and extended our time in Geraldton. At the end of last week they opened up again but we felt it wasn't appropriate to go unless one was totally self sufficient. The bus driver agreed!.

Today we finally got a handle on the local bus service and bused as close as possible to the HMAS Sydney memorial.  Worth looking up if you are not familiar with that history.

The dome is composed of gulls representing each of the sailors who perished.

The pool represents the final resting place. To the Lh side is the latitude where the wreck was found.

The 3rd component reoresented the bow of the ship. And the last sculptural element , a poignant representation of the wives, mothers, daughters etc who were impacted by the loss.

All sculpture was done by Joan Walsh-Smith and Charles Smith. The back wall features the name, rank and occupation of all 600+ sailors.

On the way down I though this was a great perspective.
Again we met Myriam and went for farewell coffee. We hope one day she can visit Caberra again..a fabulous personality.

We caught a bus all the way home! Yeah! We are self catering this evening so we can just relax.
So ends the 28th day.
