Morning Came the 19th Day

And we taxied to the East Perth Terminal at 6am  for out train to Kalgoorlie.

It seemed there was quite a crowd. Maybe it was people rescheduling after lock down. Nah!  As things turned we got a triple whammy.  60 Grade 6s going on a school excursion, 2 old peoples' bus tours and we scored a seat with no window!

As it turned out we had a good trip in a car with some of each group. The oldies were Italian and were cute to watch- shared fruit from their trees, tins of home baking and had a sense of humor. The kids were ok, two swapped with us...they only wanted to watch movies so were happy to give us their window. All good. 8 hour trip but not onerous. First through the hills burnt in the bushfires, then white sandy soils and wheat fields. We passed both extensive salt pans and real lakes like Lake Julia.

Several places evoked memories of our 1996 ride from Adelaide to Perth. The train had a brief stop for a "leg stretch" at Merriden.

The dirt turned red - we were there. Called at the Info Centre on our walk to the hotel.  The friendly staff gave us good advice and resources. We sauntered in the afternoon sun taking pics- rain  is forecast for tomorrow. A selection of pubs....

The York Hotel

And where we are staying..The Palace

And so ended our transit day.  What will tomorrow bring?
