Morning came the 6th Day
.....after a night of storm and tempest. Such rain! Forecast was "feels like 5 degrees". Looked outside our bedroom window; the Platypus Stream was lapping at our deck. Nothing for it except the reality, so we donned thermals and puffers, then rain gear and set off. We walked for the next four hours around the harbour. Our first target was Hogarth Falls via the People's Park. Only got a conversation with the Council Workers who were closing both...too wet and dangerous.
Still plenty to appreciate when walking with someone with botany and geology interest and knowledge. It seemed the cruise boats still went out (we'd done this previously). Rain on and off but great photo light.
The Strahan end of the Great Western Railway. Currently it runs half the route from alternate ends. We will come down the mountain from Queenstown on Thursday.
It's not commercial here. An IGA up the hill. On the waterfront a pub, a couple of eateries, the cruise offices and a mill.
Further along is the old Customs House and Post Office
We thought we had identified all the things that could happen to disrupt the actual "public transport" aspect of the trip. No. Firstly, a train derailment and then.. Targa Tasmania! A car rally/race never crossed our minds. On Friday next the road closures are along the only route from Queenstown to Hobart. Our bus for this leg runs only on Friday and the next Tuesday....
All night each of us silently tossed around Plan Bs- the bus company had not contacted us. This morning they advised.."it should be OK...we may just have to sit and wait sometimes". We don't care so long as we get out of Queenstown. It is really quite remote.
So ends the 6th Day. ..with fingers crossed. Fun!
